Why is a dental Xray necessary before tooth extraction in Australia.

For any tooth extraction, it is a requirement ot have a Xray taken of the tooth before getting it taken out by a dentist. Xray gives a valuable information , helps dentist rule out unusula pathology under the root and provides valuable insight into shape and structure of the roots. Tooth roots are generally twice the length of the visible part of the tooth above gum line. roots work like posts in the bone to hold the tooth anchored. they can be twisted, can have a bulge, can be fused to each other, or can sometimes be fused to neighbouring teeth. Xray heps the dentist to decide what instruments will be needs and what forces need to be applied depending on difficulty level of extraction. It helps the clinician to plan for the extraction . Xrays also serve as a record of pathology that necessitated removal of that tooth, for any future reference. Here on the Gold Coast in our Smile more Dental Clinic , it costs only $40 to take a dental X-ray. In some cases we can arrange for full mouth Xray that can be bulk billed under Medicare. Can we do dental extractions for children?

At Smile More Dental, we routinely perform dental extractions for children whenever it become necessary. Depending on child's ability to cope with the emotional trauma of having a tooth taken out while being awake, we can either have extraction done at our practice or use one of the Paediatric Dental Services in the Gold Coast. Most patients we have teeth taken out in the chair while being awake and only have a local aesthetic, prefer to do it willingly and is an informed choice. If you express any preference to get it done by a specialist, we will then arrange for you to visit a trusted pediatric dentist in Gold Coast or you can choose your own paediatric dental office . We will then arrange for all xrays and the tests necessary which will help Paediatric Dentist on the day of consultation. We will also pass on any notes on our observation. If a child and parents choose to get extractions done under local anaesthetic at our practice, our dentist and staff will carefully guide your child into receiving the aesthetic and provide after care counselling at each step. Topical aesthetic gel helps alleviate most of the pain of injection. We also prefer not to use the words that mention needles. We give child an idea of how the aesthetic is going to make feel the part of the mouth very numb and strange. When receiving a needle it is mostly the fear of unknown and also the fear of a strange feeling since most children have never had a local anaesthetic before or this could be the first time of receiving dental local anaesthetic. Careful guidance into the procedure mostly alleviates most fears and lets the child cope with the procedure.

What is a dry socket after tooth extraction? Will I get it?
Dry socket is a condition where healing of extraction wound is delayed because of loss of blood clot from the socket before the wound starts to heal. This is leading cause of pain after about second to third days of extraction. Will all medications and proper after care, pain after extraction generally subsides within two to three days. But if you notice that the pain is getting worse rather than better after the second day, it signals that you could be having a dry socket. Dry socket needs attention by the dentist. Call our office on 0756270655 if you need to be seen. Although it is unpredictable to say whether a patient will get a dry socket after tooth extraction, certain factors can make a person more susceptible to having it. examples are, smoking, using alcohol, rinsing mouth hard after extraction or constantly spitting out, which leads early loss of blood clot. This leaves the bone base of the socket exposed to air, food, liquids and all other irritants causing immense pain and delayed healing. Overthe counter pain relief medication may be advised by your dentist after cleaning the wound during the appointment and checking if any food or foreign particles have lodged into the dental extraction socket.
